Old Ghost Sightings-Smallwood (Cheshire).

1. At Moss End a ghostly white horse and its rider comes out of the bottomless pits and circles around in the darkest of nights.

2.In the black pits near Goldeyslack at Moss Mere there is a headless woman who comes out looking for her head.

3. In the former stables behind Old Farm you can (when you are alone on a dark night) hear the latch click. A figure will move across to Old Farm and walk into the wall where there used to be a door. Then the phantom will come back again and the click will be heard.

4. Near Fulshaw Cottage, Back Lane, leading to the Legs of Man, there is a stackyard. A ghostly figure walks directly across the road there and moves straight through the hedge.

5. In the valley of the stream filling the pond at Smallwood Mill there rides on a misty night a jet black horse and cart. It has done so for 150 years at least and is still active. It rushes across the meadow as if the horse has bolted and certainly is without a rider.

6. In the same valley but nearer Bank House Lane a white lady with no head is seen on a white horse when the night is wild.
