The Wishing Steps

The town of Macclesfield may hold the title of one of the most haunted towns in the country, however an unusual legend can be found behind St Micheal and All Angels church. If you follow the small cobbled street that runs behind the church you will come to a steep set of cobbled steps leading downwards on your right hand side. The legend goes that if you stand at the bottom of these steps and take an almighty breath, then if you can manage to run all the way to the top of the steps, any wish that you desire will be granted to you. After hyperventilating at the bottom of the steps I managed to make it to within twenty feet of the top!

  1. Oooh,… I’m getting goose pimples. Are these steps named? You didn’t mention what year they were built.
I would love to sit on these steps. I could spend a lot of time here.

  2. So,.. I went back to your “places and names” blog and couldn’t find Macclesfield. What does it mean? Is it just someone’s name? Is it spelled with two small c’s or is it MacClesfield?
